Grind Pepper Seeds for Oil Extraction in a KADY Mill

Pepper seed holds oil inside a tough hull. If the seed is only cracked, solvent or press equipment works harder and leaves oil behind. If the grind is uneven, some particles are dust and some are still whole, so extraction is slow and yield swings from batch to batch.

Kady International lists this duty among its applications: grind pepper seeds for oil extraction in a KADY Mill. The mill is a high-speed rotor-stator dispersion machine. It is used to wet, fracture, and reduce solids in liquid so the next step—pressing, solvent extraction, or slurry recovery—sees a more open, uniform feed.

Why Pepper Seed Is a Hard Grind

Pepper seed is elastic and abrasive at the same time. Whole seed settles. Hulls wrap around oil-bearing tissue. A slow agitator stirs the charge but does not open enough surface. Hammer mills and dry crushers can heat the seed and make fines that are hard to handle. For wet extraction, the plant needs a grind that happens in liquid, with particle size tight enough for oil release and coarse enough to stay processable.

That is a Kady job: high impact in a liquid vehicle, short residence time, and circulation that keeps whole seed moving into the head.

How the KADY Mill Opens the Seed

The mill pumps slurry through radial slots in a high-speed rotor and throws it into the staggered slots of a stationary stator. Tip speeds reach 9,000 feet per minute. Seed is not rubbed slowly against a wall. It is accelerated and fractured.

  1. Seed and liquid—water, solvent, or a process oil—are drawn into the head from above and below.
  2. Particles pass through the rotor slots at high velocity.
  3. Impact against the stator breaks hulls and reduces seed to a grind suited for extraction.
  4. Repeated passes expose fresh surface so solvent or press liquor can reach the oil.
  5. Auxiliary propellers keep heavy seed from sitting on the tank floor.

Kady describes this action as concentrated impact and attrition. The same mechanism is used to cut two-inch rubber chunks, wet pigments, and make emulsions. On pepper seed, the point is surface area and uniformity before extraction, not a finished food paste unless the plant also wants that product.

What Better Grind Does for Oil Recovery

Extraction yield follows how well the seed is opened and how evenly the slurry is prepared:

  • More accessible oil. Fractured seed presents more surface to solvent or to a press cake.
  • Shorter contact time. A uniform grind can reduce the soak or press cycle because fewer whole seeds remain.
  • Steadier downstream flow. Pumps, extractors, and filters see a slurry instead of a mix of whole seed and dust.
  • Heat control. Energy is applied in short, intense passes. Jacketed vessels can hold temperature when the oil or solvent is heat sensitive.
  • One vessel for wet-in and grind. Seed can be charged into liquid and reduced without a separate dry pre-break in many processes.

Exact particle-size targets depend on the extraction method. A solvent slurry may want a finer cut than a press feed. Variable speed and interchangeable heads let the same mill family cover both.

Batch and Continuous Extraction Prep

Kady custom-engineers the mill to the seed rate and the liquid system:

  • Lab mills such as the Model L, LT2000, and Model LB for grind trials and small solvent tests
  • Top-entry production mills for existing tanks
  • Bottom-entry mills when dense seed drops out of circulation
  • Continuous-flow mills when seed slurry must feed an extractor at a steady gallons-per-minute rate

Wear options matter on seed. Carbide or other abrasion-resistant components can be specified. Stainless wetted parts are standard on many units. Vacuum or closed vessels help when the liquid is a volatile solvent. Sweep arms assist if the slurry turns thick.

Test the Seed Before You Size the Line

Pepper varieties and moisture levels do not grind alike. Kady offers testing so the actual seed and vehicle can be run and checked for particle size, temperature, and throughput. Lab results track production geometry, which helps set horsepower and tip speed without guessing.

Refurbished mills can be fitted for the same abrasive, closed-tank duty and supplied with a new-machine warranty when a plant needs extraction capacity quickly.

Grind pepper seeds for oil extraction in a KADY Mill when the goal is a wet, high-energy break that opens the seed in the same tank that will feed the press or the solvent line.
